Made entirely from worn, rescued, and deconstructed men’s dress shirts, my sculpture raises awareness about the paradoxical cycle of exploitive garment manufacture, coupled with our enormous problem of textile waste. We over-buy, and discard quickly. 85% ends up in landfill.
This is a time of inattentive consumption, and outgrowing a fragile world. My diverted stream of garments is infinitesimal in the absolute, but it can spark conversation about transformation, responsibility, and mindfulness. Used clothing, with its patina of life and wear, and its sense of the familiar, is my medium for the reimagining and reclamation of artfulness, whimsy, and dignity.
From Pittsburgh, PA this show travels next to the Museum of Art in Fort Collins, Colorado, Spring 2020.
